"Casey, huh?" he looks at you doubtfully. "Okay. Come on." He motions for you to follow through the undergrowth with one hand while the other carries the small latern. The light is weak and leaves more in shadows than it illuminates. You trip over a rock, and a root. Another rock. Run head first into a tree. You're getting rather battered trying to navigate this forest in the dark. Gray takes pity on you calls a halt.

"We're only a few hours from Canterstross but I think you might just die for good if we try it in the dark," he sighs. "So we'll camp here for the night." You peer into the dark, trying to discern if this a good camping spot or not but you only see shadows. With no option but to agree you slump down against at tree and try to sleep.

The horizon is turning gray when you awake. The horizon. You're out of the forest and gave up last night ont he side of a road. It should be easy walking form here. Then you hear what awoke you. "Is het dood?" a woman's voice asks. You roll over and see a man poking Gray with a spear. "Yah," he answers. A woman stands at his side, dressed in many thicks skirts and armor. She's the lucky soul who spots you sleeping nearby.

"Merreh kin!" she shouts as she points at you. You know this won't end well and spring to your feet but the man is swift with his spear. It lands in your calf and you tumble back to the ground. This is worse than dying because the pain won't stop. The spear is wide, sharp, a deep in the muscle. You grasp it, and think about ulling but just holding the shaft makes you gasp with pain. But the owner of the weapon has no mercy. He places his foot on your back and pulls the spear from you leg. Blood runs freely down you leg and onto the dirt road. The world around you takes on a bright hue. As it fades from overly bright to dark you hear horses approach and voices talking urgently. Then you black out.

You know what's going to happen.
